Known Exemptions For LMIA And Other Facts

By Joseph Stewart

It has become the goal of many to go abroad and look for better opportunities in other places. Working or visiting other countries for work is highly different than when you process papers for a simple vacation. You will have to think about the documents that you need to have. And this must be prepared beforehand. There will be differences in the type of requirements that the government would ask when the country you are going to is different as well.

People usually go to manpower agencies for these needs. They can give you a guide on how to proceed with every requirement needed. Others give lists so that you will not miss anything. On certain instances, they would also request LMIA. This is usually asked for those who will be working in Canada. It is a document that shows a certain company is currently in need of a foreign worker.

This document is formally known as the Labor market impact assessment. It is required by the government that you are applying to and must be given by the employer. This signifies the need for foreign workers. It has to be submitted and given to you so that you can present it when you arrive to that particular country.

Those who desire to actually go to Canada would have to provide these documents all the time. But there could be several exceptions to this rule. And if you are currently planning to move abroad, knowing even the tiniest details would save you a lot of time. You might be included in several of these categories.

People who are traveling for work but are covered with international agreements would not have to present this document. For example, traders and investors that visit the country for business purposes would not need to present the impact assessment form. Certain professionals are also covered by the international agreement as well.

Exchange program participants would not have to provide the assessment document at all. Sending students to other places might be the most known type of exchange program participant. But other businesses also participate in this especially those who have a branch in other areas. Once you are sent to the other country for work as an exchange program participant, some documents will no longer be necessary.

Marrying a local would entirely entail a different rule. It would not require you to submit the document. But you might have to provide other things for a smooth process. You might have to change your citizenship in the future. At least, your process and requirements are properly in line with the needed ones.

There are others who go around the world for charity of for certain relief missions and volunteer work. In some countries, they would just go through the same process as tourists. But some areas are stricter than others. There might be a need to consider these differences to be safe.

The bottom line is that you would have to coordinate with the employer. If you are getting the job through an agency, things might be smoother and easier since they already have connections to the country and they also have direct contact with the employers which is a good thing for you. You only need to prepare the ones that are being requested.
