Here Is Information On Hot Rod Frames

By Ruth Brown

Cars have been used for a long time in the US to define social status of people. This implies that the social status of a person is depicted by the car they are driving. It is believed that this attitude started with the creation of hot rods. Hot rods were a creation of young people who wanted to produce performance cars comparable to those owned by wealthier people. Here are facts regarding Hot rod frames.

The idea of hot/street rods began in the 1930s and 1940s during the Depression. The earliest versions of these cars built in California. The young people that built these kinds of cars had a lot of time on their hands, but no money to buy better cars. As such, they resolved to make or improve their own cars.

Typically, hot rods are/were modern, classic or old American vehicles with large engines. They had large engines since they were modified so that more speed could be achieved. Currently, no clear explanation exists as to where the word hot which is used in reference to these cars originated from. Over the years, several theories that try to explain where this term originated from have been developed.

The procedure of modifying a vehicle so as to better its performance is believed to be one among the meanings of the name hot. Because the early hot rods were based on the roadster, people believe that the term rod in the name refers to roadster. It is cited in another theory that the term rod refers to a camshaft, which is an engine constituent. The camshaft was improved so as to increase the power output.

As mentioned earlier, this concept began many years ago and many changes have been done on it. Originally, bootleggers used the cars to escape law enforcement and revenue agents. The early hotrods were old car models, especially Model Ts, then Model As, and later Model Bs. The vehicles were modified in many ways to enhance speed, braking, handling, and performance among several other properties.

Part of the modification involved removing bumpers, windshields, fenders, and convertible tops. The body was also channeled and engine modification included. Engine modification was done through replacement of a less powerful engine with a more powerful one. Alternatively, the engine was just tuned to make it perform better. Wheels were also modified to offer better handling and traction

After the Second World War, many military airports were abandoned and never used. Thus, they provided good ground for hot rodders to race on. However, some racers did not stay on the airports, but instead took some of the action to the streets. This led to a major safety issue, necessitating the formation of the National Hot Rod Association, which was responsible for ensuring safety and standards among racers and the vehicles.

Car manufacturers began making cars with better performance in later years. This caused a reduction in interest in hotrods because people could buy muscle vehicles directly from showrooms. However, manufactures began focusing more on fuel effectiveness due to the Oil Crisis later in 1973. This caused the birth of street rods, modified cars not meant for racing.
